‘I first saw a painting by David Bray in 2009 aboard the cruise ship MV Discovery. The picture was of the cruise ship and I was attracted by the ‘freshness’ of it.
This I believe was due to his use of acrylic paint which gave the picture its modern lifelike qualities.
I was so impressed that I commissioned him to paint a picture of my last ship in 1959, the BP tanker “British Merchant”, off Aden. Whilst the detail is superb, I also asked him to include a small Arab dhow in the foreground, The attention to detail of this small vessel is amazing and completely sets the picture alive’
